Photoshop Inspiration #1 — Colour Splash Technique

Standard

I’ve been playing with photoshop quite a bit recently and stumbled across this cool and easy effect for photographs. It is called colour splash and allows you to take colour photo’s and isolate a certain colour range. Then you render the rest of the photograph black and white for some colour that pops. Check out my attempts below and let me know what you think!

Giant Fish Sculptures Made from Discarded Plastic Bottles in Rio

As part of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) an enormous outdoor installation of fish was constructed using discarded plastic bottles on Botafogo beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The sculptures are illuminated from the inside at night creating a pretty spectacular light show. Love this. See much more over on this

As you all know I have been messing around with photoshop as of recently. And I also post Moments of Zen as a regular feature on this site. This incorporates both of these happenings as I post a piece of self created art inspired by zen. Obviously it is nothing special, but let me know what you think anyways. Enjoy!

Photography —- Best of June Edition

Standard

I always wonder about photography. It is a beautiful invention the camera. How many things have we captured, how many amazing unforgettable moments has mankind grabbed on film. Without the camera there are so many shared experiences that the world wouldn’t have in common. However, I am never sure if photography counts as art. I’m going to say it does. Here are a few of the most beautiful photographs I have come across as of recently.

Thanks as always to the photographers for their amazing contributions…

Cheers!

Art —- Fun with Photoshop

Standard

As you can all see I have been messing around with photoshop today. As explained in my previous post I have found a fun way to mess around with water colour paint effects. Another water colour can be seen as the first image below. Also, I did some messing around with beautiful photographs an in attempt to INSTAGRAM them. These are certainly not my opinion of what is considered good photoshop art. Merely, what someone can do with only several hours of practice in the program. Feel free to comment with links to your own!

Below are several before and afters…

Cheers,

So I am by no means an artist however today I was fooling around on photoshop trying to create a new logo for this website. Mostly I was just messing around with the paint feature. In my travels I found some amazing watercolour paint brushes that allowed me to create this effect. With a parchment paper background layered in through photoshop. Anyways I feel like an accomplished artists today. Feel free to tell me how terrible it is

#ARTSPIRATION —- Monday Morning #ARTSPIRATION

Earlier in an installment of the wildly popular Mirror Pic Monday post I discussed technology. The beauty of technology and how it makes the spread of things much easier, more fluid than in times past. This is especially relevant when discussing visual stimuli. Technology (cellphones, internet, social media) makes the spread of beautiful images, videos, and happenings easy. Another thing I believe it has helped further is ART. Modern technology has allowed for artists to combine mediums and create stunning imagery that in the past was impossible to even conceive. For me anyways scrolling through these images are a great way to inspire myself. And they are great for moments of zen. Sit back, breathe, and take in the visual. Let it take your mind wherever it wants to wander and day dream. Forget about the cell, the dog, the dude at work, and zen. Here is some of my favourite modern artwork found recently…

Cheers,

Thanks of course to the artists for these images. And our friends @ ABDUZEEDO for many of the images.

Art—- Best of: Illustrations (June Edition)

Standard

We chronicle new and exciting art in these pages regularly. Often times I will feature the best from a new show, or display the works of an up and coming artist I’ve stumbled across. In this process many amazing works of art don’t make it onto the pages.  This isn’t to say they aren’t incredible in their own right. I’m just ADHD and quickly move on to something else without giving them their due. This best of edition will feature some of the best works I’ve found this month using more traditional mediums. These works are mostly illustrations, ink sketches and the more traditional paint on canvas styles of art. However, these are far from unoriginal and plain. These artists certainly showcase talent and imagination even if they are using a more traditional method. None of the art was produced by me so special thanks to the variety of artists who have contributed. Some of the artist’s have been featured here before: Derek Castle, and Gina Kiel specifically. Anyways, enjoy the art and enjoy your Sunday!
